Art History

Calvert Art History is a year-long elective designed to enable students to develop knowledge of the history and theory of art and the relationship between artist, artwork, and society. Students research and critique periods, styles, and works of art from early civilizations through modern and contemporary art.

Throughout the course, students are asked to answer questions or reflect on what they’ve read in their notes. The course covers everything from prehistoric and ancient art to contemporary art and modern architecture. Lessons cover topcis like the Italian Renaissance, the Englightenment, impressionism, and expressionism, as well as great artists like Michelangelo and Picasso.
